It’s especially after dark and rainy days that I take notice of the way the morning sun streams through the entryway of my home.
More often than not, I take it for granted.
But right now, I’m pausing on this very bench. There’s something about the light flooding into my home that’s flooding my heart with light too.
See, even as I write about the God of all hope, my own heart has dark and rainy days. I need a regular pause to soak in the sunlight, and the Son’s light.
Forty days and forty nights it rained as Noah and his family sheltered on the ark. But it took a much longer time for the flood waters to recede. Altogether, Noah and his family were sequestered on the ark for about a year.
Can you imagine the relief? Stepping into the light after so long? And what about the thrill of witnessing God light up the sky with His Rainbow? A kaleidoscope of His Faithfulness! A Promise from the One who always keeps His promises.
“…He will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5) He promises us this still.
When the world is dark, when our hearts are dark, we can look to Jesus to flood our hearts with the promise of His Light.
“The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)
And in turn, our responses and reactions to the dark must reflect who we belong to.
“…for at one time you were in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
